Notes: According to Wikipedia this was the first annular eclipse in the Continental U.S. since May 10, 1994. The eclipse occurred about 6:30 pm and lasted less than 7 min. The alignment of the Sun and Moon is off center because Nevada City lies on the southern edge of the viewing path. Does that slight asymmetry make it a little more interesting? In the lower left quadrant of the ring, there appears to be a sunspot that might otherwise have been invisible. A friend with sharp eyes claims to be able to see the profile of mountains on the rim of the Moon. Try zooming in. A solar filter that fits onto the front of the scope is necessary to prevent overheating and damage to the scope and camera. Zoom in/out with ⌘↑(+/-) (Mac), ctrl (+/-) (PC). | |
