8. M33, Triangulum Galaxy with moonglow |

Notes: We wanted a new shot of Triangulum with good alignment on the Celestial Pole and proper weight balance to see if that would give us rounder stars. The improvement is pretty dramatic. See image (2) for comparison. The moon was waxing bright and almost directly overhead. The image shows the devastating effect of moonglow, which is coming from the lower left. It doesn't wipe out our image entirely, but it does wipe out otherwise dark skies and it seems to cause a grainy effect on Triangulum itself. The image has less noise than (2), which we attribute to the lower ISO (800 vrs 1600). [Probably due to increase in total exposure time. – 6/4/2012] Zoom in/out with ⌘↑(+/-) (Mac), ctrl (+/-) (PC). |
